Summary
Manages capital improvement projects involving chocolate manufacturing process systems. Provide support to Senior Project Manager and Engineering Department in organizing, controlling, monitoring and documenting activities related to capital project management and manufacturing improvement projects. Maintains project scope, timeline and success criteria as defined by Senior Project Manager or Engineering Department Manager to meet given objectives. Performs engineering design evaluations for equipment, systems and processes related to manufacturing chocolate and chocolate related products.
Responsibilities
1. Projects
· Communicate project objectives to Production, Maintenance, Planning and other associated departments.
· Maintain project scope and timeline, working with internal resources and vendors to achieve set objectives.
· Design, plan and organize new installations in strong collaboration with Production, Quality Assurance Department and Safety Manager.
· Coordinate mechanical and electrical installation requirements with outside contractors.
· Supervise capital installation work and ensure projects adhere to established timeline and budget while meeting Ghirardelli’s safety and GMP requirements.
· Carry out independent concept investigations for solutions to assigned projects.
· Gather data and conduct feasibility analysis for proposed solutions to accommodate Production, QA and Management requirements.
· Meet with vendors to specify or evaluate new equipment, services or products.
· Achieve a pre-determined set of vendor acceptance and production hand-off criteria for new equipment.
· Develop training procedure for new equipment, systems or processes.
2. Support
· Support Operations Department and R&D in solving complex problems associated with manufacturing or processing chocolate products.
· Serve as a resource for Maintenance when expert and in-depth information is required for troubleshooting and preventative work on new equipment.
· Conduct operational training on new equipment.
· Provide support to Marketing and R&D during new product development to insure conformance to all defined objectives.
· Follow through on project implementation from concept to production start-up and hand-over.
- Miscellaneous
· Continuously observe areas for plant improvements and present these opportunities to Senior Project Manager and/or Engineering Department for ongoing improvement projects.

- Proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Power Point.
- Familiar with standard concepts, best practices in field, and procedures in project management.
- Ability to learn and understand an integrated system (JDEdwards)
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Ability to coordinate projects at various levels in the organization
Education and Experience
- Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline. Equivalent experience may be used to diminish the degree requirement.
- Between 0.5 – 2 years experience in project engineering in a manufacturing environment preferred.
